Whether you’re in need of conversation and a caffeine kick or looking for a quiet corner to study, there’s a coffee shop in Los Angeles that’s got you covered.  We’re sharing a few of our favorites, for those days when your only problem is “tea or coffee?”

Urth Caffé

With 9 locations scattered across Southern California, you’ll probably be able to find a nearby Urth Caffé no matter what part of LA you’re in - even if it’s LAX!  Their extensive menu is filled with fair trade, certified organic coffee and fine teas from across the world.  You really can’t go wrong with anything here but if you’re feeling adventurous, try an ice tea boba or the famous Spanish latte Granita, inspired by the coffee of Barcelona.

Blue Bottle Coffee

Blue Bottle Coffee is a favorite of founder and tea-lover Kenzie. Concrete floors and blonde wood help create a bright, minimalistic space where the high-end, single-origin coffee can be enjoyed without distraction.  The menu may be limited but boundless flavors and aromas more than make up for it. We guarantee you’ll enjoy the green tea but if you’re feeling adventurous, try the semi-secret menu item: the Gibraltar

Verve Coffee Roasters

Oversized, open windows and doors lead out to a lush, wraparound patio at Verve Coffee Roasters.  Order a seasonal pastry and a tres leches cappuccino before retreating to one of the green suede couches or butterfly chairs.  A favorite of coordinator Morgan, this Santa-Cruz based, bohemian coffee bar is casual, comfortable, and quintessentially California.

Great White Venice

This cute, charming and casual cafe restaurant right next to the iconic Venice sign is such a dream. Open for breakfast and lunch, stop by for a quick coffee on the go or order a Riviera Bowl and to enjoy the internationally influenced beachy decor as you dine in.

Cha Cha Matcha

Three words: Cha Cha Matcha. This trendy New York-based operation recently opened two Los Angeles locations - one on Robertson in West Hollywood and another on Abbot Kinney in Venice.  This Ray + Arrow favorite whisks up unique, Japanese-sourced matcha drinks such as the Lavender CBD Matcha Latte and the Collagen Blue Algae Latte. Complete with apparel designed by Virgil Abloh, we’re giving this contemporary café the gold seal of approval.

Nossa Familia

Looking for the most magnificent location to kick back and enjoy a cappuccino?  Nossa Familia, tucked away in the beautifully restored, historic CalEdison building, may be just the spot.  The baristas in this art deco downtown lobby focus on Brazilian style drinks, like the spicy mocha fogo and the classic cafezinho.  Kenzie’s favorite? The matcha latte with oat milk!
